important points to note:
ACT I: The War of the Ancients
- Fiore was divided between two lords and two ladies to create the continent. On the continent, six dragons, guardians of their respective elements, resided over the Humans. The dragons protected the humans from one another and watched over the infantile race like parents would watch over their children.
- The four nations were caught up in a great war known as the 'War of the Ancients'. This war spanned for generations, finally passing to the Lord Kalban, Lady Ishlay vi Allegra, General Sashta, and the Chancellor Penelope.
- To quell the fighting, the Dragons chose champions among the Humans, the most pure of heart and intent, so that they might quell the fighting and tip the war in the direction of the dragon's liking. However, such meddling brought about a greater destruction. These Champions were the first Dragon Slayers. The first Magi the world had known.
- Lord Kalban, having been granted an audience with the dragons, pleaded with the divine beasts so that he might be granted their power to overthrow the Dragon Slayers and defeat them in battle. The Dragons granted this request, though none of them knew the true consequences these actions would bring about. Lord Kalban, the Ethereal God Slayer, was created by the grace of the Dragons.
- In Central Fiore where Clover Town now stands, Lord Kalban fought the Dragon Slayers and bested them handily with a magic far greater than any of them could produce. In the end, only a few Dragon Slayers remained alive. The other nations yielded to Lord Kalban and thus, the Kingdom of Fiore was created.
- Lord Kalban, afraid of the Dragons, since they had granted him such power. What should they choose to give others power to rival his? His kingdom would be undone. With this mindset, he rode out to slay each of the beasts. However, the remaining Dragon Slayers stood up against him. It was futile, however, and the Dragon Slayers dwindled to three, then to two. One by one, the Dragons went into hiding.
- Finally, the Lord Kalban cornered the last Dragon Slayer before the capital of Zion. The Light Dragon slayer put up a great fight, but to no avail as she was easily defeated. However, before Lord Kalban could kill her, the Dragon of Light descended from the heavens and fought the Lord Kalban to a stalemate. Seeing it could not defeat him with its power, the Dragon took once more to the skies, using its magic to rip the very city of Zion up from its roots. The city, floating in the air, ascended into the skies with the last Dragon Slayer within its confines.
- The city, Dragons, and last Dragon Slayer were declared lost. Lord Kalban returned to Crucus, the new Capital of Fiore, not in triumph, but in defeat. Years past and Lord Kalban died, but not before his line was extended bearing a son and a daughter. The first true Magi that can be seen to this very day.
- 1,400 years since, the number of magi grew exponentially and the need to keep them in certain limits became a necessity. The Council of Magi was created, using Clover Town as its base of operations out of respect for the late Lord Kalban. Guilds were created and the law was proclaimed that all magi must belong to a guild.
- 600 years afterward reaches the present.
ACT I: The War of the Ancients
The Kingdom of Fiore was not always as majestic as one might think today. It was once a country sharing the continent with three others. Of the North was the Monarchy of Fiore, ruled by the Lord Kalban and supported closely by his Rune Knights. Of the South was the General Sashta, a man of war and power, ruling through might and terror. A shrewd military mind and a fist of iron that had crushed down on his enemies. The Chancellor Penelope of the Zionic Provinces of the East, leader of the democratic provinces that lay under her rule. Finally, the lady Ishlay vi Allegra of the western seaboard. These four leaders created the four warring countries that comprised the War of the Ancients. Back in the days of the Ancients, for that is what these times were called, magic was something only the creatures of the wilds possessed. It was a power no man harnessed, kept by the Six Guardians of the Elements. The Six Dragons.[/blockquote]
Each Dragon lived in its own region of the land, the Divine Beasts seldom interfering with the workings of man unless to remind them of their terrible power. In the days of the Ancients, it was the people who used the Dragons as a means of protection, setting up their kingdoms to be within the dragon's territories, not daring to invade another kingdom for fear of annihilation. No mortal device nor any shelter could save them from the wrath of the Beasts, so the humans lived in a wavering truce between themselves and the Guardians.
There eventually came a time when the Dragons, whom generally chose not to interfere with the plight of mortals aside to protect them, each took a human under their wing (so to speak), training them in an ancient, powerful magic that became known as 'Dragon Slayer' magic - which, as it suggests, was said to be strong enough to slay a dragon. Each of the humans dubbed 'Dragon Slayers' had been given the magic of their Dragon, inheriting the element of the Dragon that had taken them in. These humans had not only powerful magic, but a means of quickly regenerating their stamina and magical might - all they had to do was find a source of their element, and eat it. For instance, the fire dragon slayer could eat fire, but he could not eat a fire that he had made.
The Dragon Slayers were a powerful force to be reckoned with, certainly not something to have been taken lightly. Many believed that the Dragon Slayers were more powerful than the very Dragons that had taught them magic, but this was perhaps merely lore. Each Dragon Slayer was a legend in their own right, but none more so than the Fire and Darkness Dragon Slayers, whom became known as infamous terrors.
Both of these Dragon Slayers were fierce fighters, forces to be reckoned with, and similarly both fell from grace. They went on a rampage across Fiore, trampling everything and everyone in their path, their wrath seemingly endless as they ravaged their way across the nation. For a time, it seemed as though they were unstoppable forces that would never cease to plague Fiore until it had been completely flattened. The exact reason for their sudden attack is unknown, but many attribute their actions to prideful feelings of superiority.
This lasted for the better part of two days as they carved a path into the heart of Zion. It was at the now Exodus Lake that the progress was halted at the capital of Zion. The Dragon of Light, granting solace to the peaceful citizens of the East, used her power to rip the city from the ground itself, lifting it into the air with her magic to float into the sky.
Of course, such actions did not go unnoticed by the great Dragons, nor the Lord Kalban. He took action, seeking out the Dragons and negotiating with them, trying to convince them to grant him the power to destroy the rogue Dragon Slayers that turned on not only Fiore, but the very Dragons that had first given them power. After much debating the Dragons agreed, each granting the Lord their power, their element. With this, the first true mage is born (excluding the Dragon Slayers), whom came to be known as a 'God Slayer', for he could bend any of the six elements to his will and truly had otherworldly strength.
Lord Laban then made his way to the center of the country, meting face to face with the armies of the other three lords, where he displayed his powers by killing the rogue Dragon Slayers. He did this with ease, finishing off the Dragon Slayers that even armies could not stall nor stop. His show of power was such a ferocious one that each of the other three nations submitted to him, making him the one true ruler of Fiore.
As such, millennia ago the War of the Ancients ended, the continent coming together as a single force, on the very ground where the town of Clover now stands.
