Guidelines of Magic
Magic didn't always exist. It's important to understand this because so few people, even after several millennium, carry the spark that allows them access to such immense power. Out of the population of Fiore, 1 out of 10,000 people carry the spark. The spark was said to have first been given to the Lord Kalban of the Northern Province of Fiore some 2,000 years ago. Amid the constant war, the Ancient Dragons granted him the first magic. With this power, Kalban was able to unite the four regions of the world under a single rule, a single government. Seeing the monster they had created, the six dragons of the elements sought to seal away magic from mankind forever, however could not. The God Slayer had been created. The six dragons took refuge in their respective corners of the world, having been defeated by the Lord Kalban. The tyrannical rule of Kalban was glorified by the masses, worshiping him as a God.
This preface allowed Kalban, later to record his findings of the nature of magic. Kalban found that there were three systems that magic abide by. The Sun System, the Moon System, and the Star System. Each element was found to have those which worked well together and that which it clashed against. Each element also had a resistance to and a weakness against other elements creating what is known as, when all three systems are put together, 'The Magic Circle'.
Imagine each element listed in a hexagon. Light being the first followed by Fire, then Wind, then Darkness, then Water, then Earth and back to Light. Now, imagine a straight line being drawn from the six corners of the hexigon to the opposing corner so that the lines travel from Light to Darkness, from Water to Fire, and from Wind to Earth. This would be the Star System. The Star System shows the opposing elements that are forever in conflict with one another. The Six elements colliding in the center to create a single point. The Seventh Element.
Now, imagine that two equilateral triangles are set over one another going from Light to Wind to Water back to Light, and Darkness to Earth to Fire back to Darkness. These two triangles represent the twin triads of power, or those elements that work well together. You may notice that the shape presented looks like that of David's Star. This is called the Sun System. When read clockwise, it also shows which elements are stronger than another within the triads of power.
Finally, imagine the Hexagon's sides being filled in, from one to the next to create the Hexagon itself. This final system is called the Moon System. This shows which elements going from Light elements to Dark elements are stronger than one another when read in a clockwise fashion. The Moon System, The Sun System, and the Star System combined all create 'the Magic Circle', what is believed to be the key to unlocking the seventh and strongest element.
