All mages start at 0 exp, however, upon acceptance they are granted 100 exp to divide among any number of starting boosts they choose. In effect, you'll start RPing at level 1. Some people may opt to not get the exp bonus. just put that under 'level' so that we know. Otherwise, start yourself at level 1.
At level 1, you are considered a mage-in-training. You have any number of spells from one to five, depending on how you split your exp, and you are considered fresh out of the gate. You are able to purchase rank 1 traits and talents and rank 1-2 spells.
at level 5, you are average in your skills. You're not amazing in your abilities, but you're not terrible either. You are now able to purchase rank 2 traits and talents and upgrade your spells to rank 3.
At level 9, you are growing in your abilities and are now more advanced in your training. You are gaining in power and you're more experienced in your field of expertise. You feel your powers expanding. You are now able to purchase up to rank 3 traits and talents and upgrade your spells to rank 4.
At level 10, you have reached the next level in your training and have opened up access to your secondary element. It can be the same as the primary, simply increasing your power in the element you already have, or it can be expanding into another branch of element types. Refer to the magic guide for this. Remember, clashing elements are seldom found cooperating within the same mage, very few people will be able to make use of this. Because they have conflicting elements within themselves, their magic will be neither strong nor weak against other elements. It is much more likely that cooperating elements such as light, wind, and water or darkness, fire, and earth will be found in the same mage. At the same time, a second mage type opens up for use making use of your new elemental affinity, or your newly strengthened elemental affinity.
Level 13 opens up the use of rank 4 traits and talents as well as up to rank 5 spells. You are now at a rank that allows you to become a guild master or buy a guild license. You have advanced to a point where you are among the strongest mages in Fiore. Congratulations on your development!
At level 17, you are considered a master. Your final elemental affinity opens up at this point and you gain your last mage type. You are able to purchase any rank of trait or talent you desire and are in command of the strongest of spells. All that is left at this point is to become the legend you have set out to become. You are able to produce extraordinary feats and command the respect or fear of those you meet.
